When dealing with asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in the workplace, or when there is suspicion of their presence, only qualified personnel are authorized to manage or remove them safely. According to the Work Health & Safety Regulation 2011 and the Code of Practice for the Safe Removal of Asbestos, any worker tasked with removing more than 10m² of non-friable (also known as ‘bonded’) asbestos must undergo appropriate training. Non-friable asbestos materials typically include asbestos cement sheeting, commonly known as fibro, which was widely used in buildings before 1990. These materials were utilized for cladding, roofing, and fencing, and are often found as backing boards in wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.
